It’s Christmas season again; time for fun and celebration, but most importantly, a time to be more security and safety conscious.
I’m sure you’ve had a great and rewarding year. It’s the festive season again, and Christmas is in the air with lots of celebrations and parties here and there all in the spirit of Christmas.
But as we know it, this season also attracts the possibilities of unwanted and unanticipated tragic events that could cause either loss of lives or properties. You really don’t want to be caught up in the mix of such negative circumstances.
We really wish for you to enjoy the festivities and have a wonderful holiday, so we’ve cooked you a very delicious and well-spiced Christmas rice and chicken of how to stay safe and free from trouble in this Christmas season.
Jashsupplies would like to remind you of some basic crime prevention tips that can help keep you and your property safe.
- Always be aware of your surroundings.
- Being aware of your surroundings requires that you be able to hear what is going on around you. Many times you will hear something before you see it. If you listen to music while walking, joggingor biking, consider keeping one earbud out. Any time your office, workspace or lab is left unattended, please secure your personal and institutional property. Lock the doors when feasible.
- Whenever possible, walk in groups of two or more. There is safety in numbers.
- Walk and park in areas that are well lit and well traveled. Stay away from dark or secluded areas.
- Secure your valuables and holiday packages in the trunk or in the rear of your vehicle and out of plain sight.
- Have your car or house keys readily available before you get to your car or your home. Fumbling for your keys or having your head down looking for them can make you a vulnerable target.
- Avoid using outdoor ATMs after dark.
- If possible, hold all cellphone calls and texts until you are at a safe location.
- Cross the street at designated crosswalks. At controlled intersections, cross with the signal and remember that while state law gives the right of way to the pedestrian in the crosswalk, it is also your responsibility to make good decisions when entering the crosswalk.
- If you become a victim of a crime, try to stay calm, quickly surrender the property that is demanded, take note of the suspect’s description and immediately notify security or the police.
- DRIVE SAFELY: If you are travelling at this period, make sure your car is in top shape. And unless you know all the police check points on the highway you are travelling, it’s advisable you travel during the day. If you are travelling in the afternoon, do not stop if anyone waves any item at you claiming it fell off your car.
- Always make sure you get to a safe area before you park and check. Ensure you do not drink and drive, obey the road signs and the speed limit and ensure that all passengers in your vehicle are properly secured using seat belts, and all other safety devices.
